I’m pretty sure it’s been years since I remember walking into a room without finding Pokemon cards. Long before there was Pokemon Go, I, and Pokemon obsessed kid parents have been “finding” Pokemon. Cards. All. Over. The. House. That annoyance aside, I actually totally love the game. Which is why when Louise, of I’m Feelin’ Crafty, asked me along for another reason of Sew Ready To Play, I had to sew a DIY Pokemon Pokeball Shirt.
Before I get to the DIY Pokemon Pokeball shirt, let me tell you why this teacher mom loves the Pokemon card game. One, this game is great for quiet indoor play and helps my kids make it through the long, snowy winters. Two, they’re using a huge amount of educational skills in order to play the game. The Pokemon card game encourages math skills and involves many complex strategies, requiring a player to weigh options and make trade-offs for maximum results. Strategy games encourage analytical reasoning and life-skill cooperation as they negotiate trades and work together to make a deal that benefits both parties. I can’t say this is always peacefully resolved in our house but they’re learning.
This Pokemon Pokeball shirt is quick and easy to sew.
Step 1- Print and cut the Pokeball template.
Step 2- Cut the top pattern piece out of red felt and the bottom of white felt.
Step 3- Pin in place. You may choose to use some fusible interfacing instead of needles. If you do, follow the package usage instructions.
Step 4- Using a satin or decorative stitch, applique each piece to the shirt, being very careful to keep the shirt back out of the way.
And there you have it! Your DIY Pokemon Pokeball T-shirt. Now you’re ready to power up or evolve in style!
