My friend Virginia of Gingercake sent over her newest pattern, the Day Off Backpack and I’m in love! I’ve sewn several of her patterns before and they never disappoint. From stuffies, like Lucky the Elephant, to amazing books like Pretty Birds and Sewing To Sell, Virginia is taking the sewing world by storm with whimsical patterns and must have books.
I sewed up the largest size in the gorgeous, Cotton and Steel Honeymoon prints. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m absolutely digging my sloth covered backpack. And that neon yellow zipper? Swoon!
The finished adult size pack is 15.5” x 17.5”, with adjustable straps, a front zipper pocket, a curved flap with a magnetic snap, and a drawstring closure. It also includes an large interior lining pocket and comes with a darted or boxy base option. I went with the darted base option and d-ring and swivel ring clasps (affiliate link) for the straps.
The child size pack looks like a great fit for children ages 2-8. It measures about 12” x 14” and features a boxy base and square flap with a button closure. The child size also has adjustable strap instructions but instead of a drawstring closure, it has snap sides to give it a more boxy and look.
