Because Spring can be quite breezy around here and I decided that if we waited around for grey fleece to make it to our house, I’d be making a shark hood in the middle of summer and the neighbors would call the authorities because my kids would be wearing the fleece shark hood outside in 95 degree heat and sweating to death. Because that’s what shark loving boys do.
And being a mom who loves to sew, you sit in front of said pattern trying to decide which other hood option you can sew with the fleece colors you already have on hand.
I made the bunny hood option because a). it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and b). it’s almost Easter and what makes more sense than bunnies and Easter? And again, luckily, not a single complaint. He hasn’t even asked me where his shark hood is yet which I expected at least 15 times by now.
Here’s what I love about this pattern.
1. It comes with two different options; hood and hooded scarf. Which means, if your kids, like mine, are not big on scarves and tight things around their necks, there’s another option.
2. This pattern comes with 10 different animal options. That means you can make this hood just about a million different ways and make any animal loving kid feel like the luckiest person in the world.
3. The pattern comes in sizes 12 months through 12 years!!!!
4. It’s fully lined, which means no serger!
Combine all of those things with the ease and clarity of Heidi’s instructions and you’ve got yourself a fabulous pattern! The pattern has a generous amount of room which makes it easy to slip on and off over their heads when they’re using it during pretend play moments and while the pattern is designed for thicker winter fabrics, I think it can easily be used with more lightweight fabrics if you’re planning to use the hoods more often for dress up play than winter wanderings. Which is what I’ll be doing next because before you know it, my kids will be asking for a bear, a monkey, a mouse, a dinosaur, a shark, a fox, and a cat.
