We are so excited to be back home in the good old U.S. of A for this year’s Fourth of July celebrations. Believe it or not, this will be the boy’s first ever small town American experience of our nation’s birthday. Fireworks, parades, and all things patriotic.  We’re celebrating this year in style with a trio of puffy paint American flag shirts.  Want to make a set of your own?  These seriously take just 10 minutes to make and 60 minutes to dry, so for us last minute Nelly’s, you can whip one up the day before.

Step 1:  Gather your supplies. Then cut a piece of freezer paper, parchment paper or cardboard to slip between the layers of your t-shirt.  This will keep the paint from bleeding through.

Step 2:  Draw the outline of your flag. I folded a piece of printer paper in half, traced the rectangle on the t-shirt and then drew a square for the “stars” section. Draw on your red lines.  For accuracy, measure to evenly space 6 red lines.

Step 3:  Fill in your white lines between each red line.  Then add drops of white for your stars.  You’ll want these to be bigger than you plan to make your blue dots so they show up  more.
Step 4:  Add dots of blue puffy paint to fill in the “stars” section.  You’ll want these slightly smaller than the white “stars”.
Let dry for at least 60 minutes (though I gave it overnight to be sure).

Now you’re ready for parading, flag waving, and general Fourth of July merriment.

Like chanting “Go America!” or singing patriotic songs.

And holding that very last, long and extremely loud, “home of the BRAVE!!!!!” note that we all love.  Happy Fourth!
