Using this bright, plush chevron felt creates a sturdy tote perfect for any season that can be sewn up in under 30 minutes. The Chevron fabric creates style and durability and provides a pop of color that’s sure to brighten up any outfit. Read on to see how to sew this Oversized Chevron Felt Tote.
Step 1: Cut your fabric. You’ll need one 36″ X 19″ rectangle, two 5″ X 12″ rectangles and two 12″ X 12″ squares.
Step 2: With right sides together, sew the two pocket pieces (12″ X 12″) along three sides, using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Clip the corners.
Step 3: Turn the pocket right side out, pin to the front of your largest rectangle and edge stitch to the main bag piece. Be sure to back stitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
Step 4: Fold the main bag piece, right sides together, sew along the outside edges of the bag using a 1/2 ” seam allowance.
Step 5: Press the short ends of each 5″ X 12″ pieces the the wrong side 1 1/2 inches.
Step 6: Loop one bamboo handle through the felt piece, folding it over the handle.
Step 7: Sandwich the front of the bag between the pressed edges of the handle, pin and sew in place by creating a rectangular seam. For added strength you can also so an X in the middle of the rectangle. Repeat with the other handle.
